Group exhibition ft. Matie artists at Artvark Gallery
The exhibition proudly shows its roots that are connected to the University of Stellenbosch as all the featured artists have direct links to the university being past or present. It can be seen that this exhibition connects past, present and future with the subject and love for the arts and giving as its core.
Taking into thought how one can strengthen and elaborate on Stellenbosch alumni members’ presence and social ties and being able to give back, the idea of an art exhibition were born. With the newly formed partnership between Stellenbosch University’s Alumni Relation’s Office and Artvark Gallery the collaborated efforts are shown through presenting the public with an art exhibition that portrays artistic variety and intense connectivity. The exhibition showcases both 2D and 3D creations from graduated and current students/teachers of the University of Stellenbosch. Even in the absence of a general theme for the exhibition an overall connectedness of lasting friendships, experience and exploration creates a unified and lasting feel and a unique and talented Matie atmosphere.
Featured artist and owner/curator of Artvark Gallery, Theresa Jo, is proud to say she is an ex-Matie and Alumni member supporting Bev Witten, Senior director of Alumni Relations, vision and mission regarding its annual giving back programme. This programme is geared at generating funds for the Stellenbosch University Bursary Fund, and what better way to achieve this by incorporating individuals who wants to aid in presenting potential and deserving students with the opportunity to study at the University of Stellenbosch, just like they did.
Bev Witten further states that the giving programme is geared towards fostering a philanthropic community in support of student success. This forms part of the enduring vision of research, teaching and learning, and community interaction of Stellenbosch University. The alumni and friends are essential to support the mission and can thus be part of helping to achieve the result of making a difference in education – the future of our country. Contributions can be shown by supporting this exhibition or making an online visit to read more on the options of giving to the SU Bursary Fund.

The university is not solely to thank but have played a key role in molding and nurturing these artistic talents in its starting phases and developing years.
By supporting your alma mater you are investing in the continued excellence of Stellenbosch University as a leading institution of higher learning. Artvark Gallery and the featured artists proudly supports this initiative and hope that members, friends and those that admire the vision of the giving programme for the difference it is trying to make, will actively support it as well.
As part of the support the artists have generously donated a piece of their own work to be auctioned off to raise funds for the SU Bursary. These works are on the donation wall, isolated and focused to have the auction (take part in the bidding) run actively for the whole duration of the exhibition (till the 25th of November 2013). Artvark Gallery hope that the exhibition and auction will successfully contribute to the results of giving to a great educational cause.
