Artvark 20 Year Anniversary Exhibition

Artvark is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a group exhibition comprising paintings, sculptures, prints, ceramics and jewellery by 70 artists who have exhibited with us over these 20 years. The show will be opened by Dr Elbé Coetsee on Saturday the 30th of June at 6pm. Elbé is the Director of the Mogalakwena Craft Art Development Foundation and the author of Craft Art in South Africa.

Artvark arrived in Cape Town in 1998. It was originally the Wessels’ family home with the front portion of the building designated as a gallery space selling the Artvark cutlery range. Later more crafts were incorporated. Do you perhaps remember the “Folk art” sign on the facade?
As time progressed Artvark transitioned into a gallery that is more fine art orientated. The Artvark designer steelwork by CP Wessels has become one of the focal points of the gallery.
